LOADSPACE GUIDE

From cargo list to a 3D loading plan

Plan around real cargo dimensions and handling rules. Loadspace is an online container loading workspace that requires no sign-in for planning. Check quantities, positions and volume utilization before loading.

Open the container loading calculator

Set up a container and get started

Your first visit includes a sample plan. For a real shipment, create a container in the sidebar and enter its ID, actual internal dimensions and payload limit. Preset dimensions are references.

The three steps near the top take you to container settings, the cargo list and the calculate button. Dimensions use cm and weights use kg. Set the total item limit to 0 for no limit.

Add, import and update cargo

In the cargo list, choose “Add cargo” and enter the packaged dimensions, weight per item and quantity. Each row is one cargo type. Include pallets, packaging and protrusions in the dimensions.

For bulk entry, choose “Import list” at the top and use CSV, XLSX or pasted spreadsheet data. Check column mapping, units and the preview before importing. Changes to dimensions, weights, quantities or loading rules require recalculation; old positions cannot be exported as current results.

Loading rules and unplaced items

Expand “Door and clearances” when needed to enter the door opening, horizontal cargo gap and wall clearance. Cargo rules include transport orientation, maximum stack depth and cumulative load above. Rules left unset are not verified.

Unused volume does not guarantee a usable space. Dimensions, orientation, support, weight limits and clearances can prevent placement. Expand “Loading position details” near the bottom for reasons. Volume utilization is loaded cargo volume divided by internal container volume.

For example, a packaged item measuring 100 × 80 × 60 cm occupies 0.48 m³; 20 items occupy 9.6 m³. Item volume in m³ equals length × width × height in cm divided by 1,000,000.

Explore 3D views, layers and rows

Choose perspective, top or side view. Drag empty space to rotate and use the wheel or zoom buttons to scale; reset restores the initial view. Click an item to inspect its layer, row, row quantity, orientation and coordinates.

Expand “View by layer and row” above the preview to filter 3D, playback and the items-per-row table together. Row numbering restarts on each layer. Leave the row blank for all rows, or use “Clear filters” for all cargo. Filters do not alter the plan or exports.

Layer 1 starts at the floor. Items on the same layer with the same starting X form a row across the width. The origin is the lower-left corner at the closed end: X points toward the doors, Y across the width and Z upward. Ring simulation instead defines each group of four pallets as a row.

Move, rotate and lock cargo

Calculate a plan first, then turn on “Manual adjustment”. Select an item in the scene or the dropdown below it. Rotation and locking are unavailable until an item is selected. You can also enter X, Y and Z and apply the position.

Dropping on occupied space tries swaps and rearranges nearby cargo. If loading rules cannot be satisfied, the original plan is retained. Horizontal rotation swaps length and width; rotation around the length swaps width and height; rotation around the width swaps length and height. Each turn is 90°.

Lock an item or its row, then choose “Recalculate unlocked” to keep confirmed positions. A running adjustment can be cancelled. Undo restores the entire linked move; up to 20 moves are kept until the page reloads. “Finish adjustment” exits editing and keeps the current layout.

Weight balance and kilogram limits

Expand “Weight distribution and balance” for front/rear and left/right weights, differences and centre of gravity. The collapsed header keeps the reminder summary. Checks always cover all loaded cargo, regardless of filters or playback, and exclude container tare.

Under “Balance reminder limits”, set separate kilogram limits for front/rear and left/right weight differences. Blank disables a kilogram check; 0 allows no difference. Percentage limits remain active and exceeding either limit triggers a reminder. Each direction counts once. Settings are saved separately for each container.

Default limits are 20% for weight differences and 5% of the corresponding internal dimension for centre-of-gravity offsets. “Move group toward centre” translates the whole load within the available space and can be undone. Unlock cargo first, and review any remaining reminders afterward.

Saved cargo, pallets and shipment planning

Use “Saved cargo” at the top to reuse common specifications. “Pallet templates” builds full or partial pallets using pallet size, payload and height limits. “Shipment planning” compares combinations of containers. Review the preview before confirming changes.

“Ring simulation” sits beside the items-per-row heading and requires the actual loaded pallet dimensions and weight. It creates a separate 40-pallet container and preserves the current one. Pallet templates and ring simulation serve different tasks.

Export, backup and local data

“Export plan” at the top offers item positions, items per row and weight balance as CSV, plus a loading sheet/PDF. Exports use the complete current container plan, including all layers and rows. To save a PDF, choose “Save as PDF” in the print dialog.

“Back up data” downloads the whole workspace as JSON, including all containers, cargo and related settings. “Restore backup” replaces the current workspace, so back up first. Clearing browser storage, private browsing or changing devices does not carry your plans across.

Planning data is stored in the current browser by default. Visit and feature-use statistics record source IP, device and time. Feedback also sends the content you enter; do not include passwords or other sensitive information.

Troubleshooting and result limits

Why are rotate or lock controls disabled? Calculate a plan, enter manual adjustment and select an item. Editing is temporarily unavailable while calculation or automatic rearrangement is running. If filters leave no visible cargo, clear them first.

Why did the layout change after editing? A normal automatic calculation replaces the manual layout. Lock positions to keep them and recalculate only unlocked cargo. Changes to cargo or container rules require a new validation.

Automatic calculation uses heuristic search and does not guarantee a global optimum. Failure to find a position does not prove no solution exists. Results support load planning and do not replace checks of axle loads, floor capacity, securing, forklift access or loading operations.

Use the small icon to the right of “View guide” in the lower-left panel to switch between the original green style and Google style. The original style is the default, and your choice is saved in this browser. Switching changes appearance only; it does not recalculate or edit the loading plan.
